Paddles/Blades for the HS520 HS520A HS520AS Jan 13, 2012
By ChicagoCPA We just had our first 4" plus snowfall of the winter and I discovered that the machine was not walking very well. The scraper blades were barely reaching the ground they were so worn out. It looks like I will have to order a set of these every year.
Next time tho, I think that I will replace them in the fall so that the garage will not be quite so cold.
Next time I also think I will turn off the fuel tank because when I went to tip the snowthrower back, some gasoline spilled onto the cement.
For some reason they are a bit thinner than the original paddles that I took off and have only one band of strenghening fabric between 2 pieces of rubber instead of 2 bands with 3 pieces of rubber. They will likely wear out faster and they are not as thick as the bolt like the original blades, so they wobble a bit (you cannot tighten them any further, so the are able to move about on the bolt, unlike the originals). I am not sure if this will be a problem or not. Movement often means excessive wear will take place.
They were also a pain-in-the-### to replace as the bolts are a bit difficult to get to with wrenches and screwdrivers. It would have been nice if you did not have to hold both side as you tighten or loosen.
So far, I have only replaced 3 of the blades. I am thinking that they will have to be replace just as often if I did all 6 and this will be 1/2 the work and cost.
Oregon also sells these paddles/blades however one reviewer pointed out that they also were thinner. I wonder if they use a material that does not wear down quite so quickly (doubtful). Oregon 73-048 Snow Thrower Paddle Set Replaces Honda 06720-V10-030
One more item to note. If you waited like I did until AFTER the snowfall needs clearing before realizing you need new blades, know that when I reversed just one of the middle blades (they wear at an angle), that the machine started walking again and got me thru that first job. And since there are two of them, I probably could have reversed the other one later and gotten by for the next three snow falls as well.
Reading the Honda manual, they lead you to believe you can just slide them out more as they wear down. I would say... not so much to be worth the bother.
Cake!! Dec 07, 2011
By JoJo I ordered the Honda Snowblower Rubber Paddles to replace the worn out paddles on the machine. The product was shipped quickly and without a hitch. I replaced the paddles myself and it was a piece of cake!! I haven't had a chance to try the snowblower yet because we haven't had snow; but, I have no doubt it's on its way!
Just what my snow thrower needed. Jul 06, 2011
By Laz Good vendor service. I keep spares of these items because I have a 200 foot and rather bumpy driveway. I replace the blowers scraper bar regularly also.
